Neo have been very lucky to be part of the Feeding Birkenhead Project chaired by MP Frank Field involving many 3rd sector organisations on the Wirral all working for one goal to alleviate children's food poverty on the Wirral, through this work over 2000 children where given dinners and where able to take part in fun with food activities over the summer holidays and a further 900 children in the October half term, this provision will continue into the Christmas holiday.
Wirral Council has enacted Feeding Birkenhead’s proposal to automatically register all eligible children for free school meals. It has identified 700 children across the borough who are eligible, but previously were not registered. This move will guarantee these children a hot meal each day and deliver hundreds of thousands of pounds in additional Pupil Premium funding to support their education.
Initial discussions have been held to establish a Feeding Liverpool project early in 2016.
With the help of local organisations we are seeking to establish a new social supermarket in Birkenhead, in which people struggling to get by can purchase their weekly shopping for 30% of its usual price. The food is all of good quality but it would otherwise be wasted or converted into energy. Support would be provided alongside the food to help people with benefit issues, debt, budgeting, looking for work, and cooking.
